Endemic alpine bird declining - Thursday 24 July, 2008

A recent study shows the rock wren or tuke is declining in numbers and in range.

Sue Michelsen-Heath (University of Otago) and Peter Gaze (Department of Conservation) have studied all known records of the diminutive and unique alpine bird and published their findings in the journal Notornis. For more info click here for a PDF version of the Media Release.

 

Potential impacts of wind farms on birds needs testing at every site - Thursday 7 May, 2009

Ornithological Society of New Zealand (OSNZ) council representative, David Melville, says that the potential impacts of wind farms on birds needs testing at every proposed wind farm location, and that long-term monitoring is needed following construction.
